THE US – MONTENEGRO BUSINESS COUNCIL OPENED AN OFFICE IN PODGORICA
MONTENEGRO CAN BECOME AN INVESTMENT CENTER
Podgorica, December 16 – By opening of the US – Montenegro Business Council’s office in Podgorica we are taking a concrete step forward towards the establishment and improvement of economic cooperation between Podgorica and the State of Maryland. The Council has also been active so far, since the cooperation between the capital city of Podgorica and the State of Maryland was established exactly through the Council – the Mayor of Podgorica, Dr. Miomir Mugosa, stated yesterday in a press conference after the opening ceremony.
He said that the City had already signed a friendship agreement with the State of Maryland whereby the environmental protection was identified as one of the primary objectives. The main task of the Council, according to Mugosa, is to promote the potentials of Montenegro and Podgorica on the American side, establish the connections and provide necessary information to possible investors, and also encourage the American companies to come to Montenegro. Mugosa believes that Montenegro has the potential to become a regional center.
- Montenegro is a developing country at the moment. Those in the region who have such extraordinary natural potentials for self-transformation are few. Our laws are mainly harmonized and in compliance with the economic requirements, as well as European standards. Numerous investors and financial organizations have identified Podgorica as a city with completely certain opportunities for business development and profit generation - the Mayor said.
The US Ambassador Roderick Moore said that “this day represents a major turning point in the US-Montenegro economic relations”.
- The so far activities have clearly demonstrated an increasing interest of American Companies in the Montenegrin market. Through its sister organization in America, the Council will be able to encourage more American companies to learn about the investment opportunities in Montenegro. I am honored to see the Council demonstrate a wish for the development of all kinds of relations with your country, and so towards this goal it arranged for some American law books to be donated to the University of Montenegro and the University of Donja Gorica – Moore said.
Charles Dillon, President of the US – Montenegro Business Council, said that after the meetings with Montenegrin Ministers he was convinced that Montenegro could become an investment center of the West Balkans. Robert Walker, Director of the Division of International Investment and Trade of the American Federal State of Maryland, pointed out that it was confirmed in the meetings with the Mayor of Podgorica and numerous Ministers that there was room for cooperation in various areas such as economic development projects, healthcare system, environmental protection, sustainable energy, agricultural activities, and so on. He also confirmed that the State of Maryland was ready for every form of cooperation and partnership relations.
